“Steroids, Mass Spectrometry and Endocrinology –

Past, Present and Future”

A scientific symposium and the celebration of Professor Cedric Shackleton’s academic career in research!

Come network about steroids!

22 – 23 April 2022, Birmingham, UK

The Symposium

The “Steroids, Mass Spectrometry and Endocrinology – Past, Present and Future” Symposium will be a two-day event starting on Friday 22nd April 2022.

This event will take place in advance of the Society of Endocrinology’s Endocrine Academy Clinical Update, 25-27 April. Please feel free to enjoy the sights around Birmingham should you attend both events.

Birmingham Steroid Endocrinology has benefited immensely from the longstanding
collaboration with Cedric Shackleton, the “MASSter of Steroids”, a major pioneer of steroid mass spectrometry since the 1960s. In 2022, Cedric Shackleton turns 80, and we think this represents a great occasion to bring steroid researchers from the past, present and future together and listen and learn about the translational applications of steroid mass spectrometry.

We are keen to showcase the impact of steroid endocrinology on our understanding not only of inborn steroidogenic disorders and steroid-producing tumours, but also in the context of metabolic disease, inflammation, and endocrine-related cancer. These topics also provide an ideal opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange in endocrinology, as it will attract clinical and translational endocrinologists as well as biochemists, analytical chemists, steroid biologists and computer scientists.

Special Issue of the Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is preparing a special issue for the symposium. Further details to come!
